Complete Robot Building Guide

Welcome to this grand robot building tutorial. This massive tutorial is written to introduce you all to the world of robotics. Anybody with a basic understanding of Electricity, Electronics, Voltage, Current and a bit of common sense (we need that right?) will be able to clearly read and understand this tutorial. In this series, we will understand the different types of robots, their building techniques, materials used and everything else required to build a robot.
Note: This is not a step-by-step tutorial to build a robot, but a guide to lead you into the intimidating world of robots. The tutorial covers different types of robots, sensors, actuators, their control techniques and tools required to build a robot, etc. This information will give you a fair idea on what your robot should look like, what parts to use, how to engineer and control them and various other tips. If you are looking for a step-by-step guide, navigate through the site and I am sure you will find something interesting :)
Update: I have received a couple of mails asking about the robot image shown above. In simple words, that is a 3D robot image I have created in blender. You will see more of that robot image in many of my tutorials. The robot still does not have a name. If you think you can come up with a nice name, drop a line in the forum. I have created a thread for that. Visit "Give me a Name".
How to read this guide?
The tutorial is divided into different sections and each section stands on its own. By this I mean that you are not required to read everything in a sequence, but can jump to any section that interests you. To make this tutorial resemble an online book, I have added the below index in case you wish to read it in a sequence. Each section will be added to the site in next few days and you will be able to access the complete tutorial in just a few weeks. Click on a particular link and continue to read, or return to this page to continue with the next section (clicking on "§" symbol shown between navigation links in any page gets you back here).
